We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors; we borrow it from our Children.
Native American Proverb
I saw this quote on a signboard recently when I visited the Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre with my kids and thought it was a fitting opening quote for my blog as it is very much in this sentiment I ponder, reason and write my anecdotes.
And what a responsibility that lies on our shoulders; to protect and look after this magnificent Natural World, which we have on loan while we walk this Earth and must take care to pass back to our Children in the best possible condition so it can continue to flourish and thrive as it was perfectly designed and intended to do.
In order to achieve this I deeply believe it starts with opening our (kids) eyes to it. If we teach our Children to appreciate the Natural World and to love and understand the Wildlife around them, they are more inclined to care for it and protect its environment, which is vital for the sustainability and future of our shared planet.
Why Wild Kids Ink? A love of kids’ doodles, especially those of wildlife, has inspired the name of this blog. I find that drawing, painting, creating models etc. is a great way for the kids to process their encounters with nature. The process generates further thought about what they have learned and experienced and their creative interpretations are just magic.
By starting a discussion about Nature and Wildlife and by sharing our approach, as a family, to connect with it I hope that you will find your own inspiration and instil a connection. I hope it will add value to your life and open your (kids) eyes to the magical Natural World of which we are all so very privileged to be a part.
With kindness,
Helle
